Wii Smashes Age Barrier!
The Wii made by Nintendo is a video game console where you can control the movements of a game by the use of your hand. It uses a wireless controller which detects where your hand is moving three-dimensionally and acts as a pointing device.
The Wii is a great tool for helping people to keep fit with their wide range of sport, dance and fitness games. Computer games are mostly associated with the young, however the Wii is encouraging the older generation to become active and take a part in gaming too. The Telegraph newspaper found that at a particular retirement home pensioners aged 80 to 103 are addicted to playing the Wii. Diane Rudge, the executive director at the centre said,
“They’re up off their armchairs and moving about and there’s a real team spirit. We’re going to invest in a whole library of games so they don’t get bored.”
Clearly the Wii has impacted older people as they are becoming accustomed with newer technology and this technology is making them happier thet they can participate in tennis matches, for example, which they can’t do for real anymore. It will keep their body and mind active too which is extremely helpful for the older generation. The Wii is a great piece of technology that has changed peoples views and opinions about computer games and the age barrier.
