Active Gesture Set Display

One of the more important aspects of my project is how I’m going to inform the user what exactly is happening and how they should interact with the TV. This includes showing the user which culture’s gesture set was active for that day. I brainstormed a few ideas, ranging from using household objects, to using the display on set top boxes.

Household Objects

For quite some time, I was intent on using some sort of household object to display what the culture of the day was. An initial idea was to use an analogue wall clock with a day display, and replace the day display with flags of different cultures. For instance, instead of showing ‘Monday’, a Japanese flag might be shown.

I quickly realised this was not consistent with the highly technological theme of my project. At least at this point, I had some sort of direction.

Technology Based

With this technological direction, other methods came to mind and this can be seen in the image at the top of this page. The one which I’ve decided to stick with, is the mobile phone application.
