Dr Victoria Walters


Victoria Walters is an academic and artist. Formerly a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Southampton and Research Associate at UWE Bristol, Victoria holds a doctorate from the University of Ulster on the art practice of Joseph Beuys as an expanded language and healing discourse that engages with the Celtic world.

She is a member of the Mapping Spectral Traces network and SIEF (the International Society for Ethnology and Folklore), and contributes to one of the society’s working groups, Place Wisdom.

Victoria’s publications include Joseph Beuys and the Celtic Wor(l)d: a language of healing (Lit Verlag, 2012), Beuysian Legacies in Ireland and Beyond: Art, Culture and Politics co-edited with Dr Christa-Maria Lerm Hayes (Lit Verlag, 2011) and “The Artist as Shaman: the work of Joseph Beuys and Marcus Coates” in Schneider and Wright (eds), Between Art and Anthropology (Berg 2010).

Victoria’s research interests include the work of Joseph Beuys, theories of language, the relationship between art and anthropology and art in a time of climate change. She is currently exploring research through practice.
