Social Sewing helps Despina and her circle of older seamstresses to feel in touch. Each networked, miniature sewing machine mimics the activity of the friends' own sewing machines, restoring something of the shared activity they used to enjoy when they sewed together in the same workshop.

It is one of a series of a radical digital products created by our students for their grandparents, together with fellow students on our sister course, Product Design. Arduino boards communicate wirelessly and are programmed to make the sewing machines behave the way they do.
