Sue Palmer

Sue Palmer is a contemporary artist making performance, sound, video and digital artworks, living and working in South West England and London. Place responsive work and participatory projects are central to her arts practice, a practice that engages with landscape, geography, sensory perception, popular culture, and social and civic relations. Collaboration with people from a diversity of places and communities – often with those who have little experience of making art – is embedded into the process of making work through conversation, exchange and production.

Sue works both as an individual artist and through collaboration across a diversity of publicly funded arts projects making work with people and place, integrating digital media with performance and live event. With a Masters in Cultural Performance (Bristol University 2001), she spent a decade as an Associate Lecturer in Performance at Dartington College of Arts, and has also produced and directed international cultural exchange projects.

Over the past decade, Sue has created and produced many place responsive projects and commissions including ‘Hair Raising’ as part of Year of The Artist (2001), ‘Transience’ a digital artwork (2008), ‘The No 1 Bus’ with Joff Winterhart for b-side multimedia festival (2010) and ’The One Hundred Year Old Rock n Roll Band’, a collaborative song work for ANTI Contemporary Art Festival in Finland (2011).

Sue’s current commissions include ’26 and 7 Bones’, a collaborative project with Sally Watkins about hands and feet working and shaping the West Dorset seaboard, the making of a documentary video for the visual art programme ‘Garden of Reason’ at Ham House Richmond, and as an artist in residence at Mottisfont in Hampshire making work with the staff and volunteers.
