David Littlefield

David Littlefield teaches Architecture and Interior Architecture at UWE, Bristol. His research interests include exploring notions of place, heritage, body & space, and perception, and the role that art and installation can play in re-presenting or re-interpreting space. David has undertaken a study of the Roman baths in Bath as part of an artists’ residency, which focused on the use of light, projection and film to offer a new reading of a historically complex site. This study was part of a wider inquiry into 'Estranged Space' being conducted with Mathew Emmet of the Univesity of Plymouth and Ken Wilder of the University of the Arts London (Chelsea). David is presently in conversation with Bath Abbey concerning a collaboration with the 'Footprint Project', which will include interpretation of the Abbey floor.

David is also co-organising the international conference 'Transgression', being organised on behalf of the Architectural Humanities Research Association, which will run at UWE in November 2013.

David has written, co-written or edited more than 10 books on the subject of architecture, including Architectural Voices; listening to old buildings (Wiley 2007, with Saskia Lewis). Further, he curated the exhibition Unseen Hands; 100 years of Structural Engineering at the V&A (2008). David has studied design and literature at the University of Birmingham, Central St Martins and Chelsea College of Art and Design; he is a senior lecturer in the Department of Planning and Architecture at UWE.
